We focus on the future, so you can focus on now

What’s your current fertility health?

A simple blood test measuring Anti Mullerian Hormone levels tells us how many eggs you have left.
Young, fit and healthy women in their 20’s often discover low levels, the sooner we know the better.
Knowledge is power.

Step 1: Referal from GP

Reach out to our dedicated FOCUS Fertility GP or your local GP. To be eligible for Medicare rebates for medical freezing, you must have a current referral letter with your name and direct mention of FOCUS Fertility Preservation, Dr Kee Ong or Dr Miriam Lee.

At your first consultation, you’ll be supported by our skilled GP and Fertility Nurse as we get to know you, your focus and long term family goals. We’ll also cover your medical history and assess factors affecting your fertility.

Step 2: Make an appointment with a Fertility Specialist

Our expert Fertility Specialists will organise initial testing to determine whether egg freezing is the best option for you. These tests may include a pelvic ultrasound or blood test to measure Antimullerian Hormone (AMH) levels in your blood.

We arm you with results, options and expert recommendations to help you make empowered and informed decisions on a highly tailored and personalised treatment plan based on your individual needs.

Step 3: Stimulation

Stimulation involves 8-14 days on a hormone protocol. Your FOCUS Specialist will discuss the best medications and stimulation techniques for you. Fertility and egg freezing is not one size fits all!

Medication usually takes the form of hormone injections using a tiny needle under the skin. We understand this can feel daunting at first but our FOCUS Fertility Nurse will hold your hand through the process step-by-step, showing you exactly how and where to give the injections until you feel completely confident. During this period, we’ll monitor you closely via blood tests and ultrasounds.

Step 4: Egg Collection

When your eggs are ready to be collected, you’ll visit our on-site day surgery for a short 10-15 minute procedure. You’ll be asleep and won’t feel a thing.

During the procedure, your fertility specialist carefully extracts fluid from the follicles on your ovaries (where the eggs grow). The eggs are extracted vaginally, so there are no cuts or scars.

As with any anaesthetic, you might feel a little tired or groggy afterwards but we will keep you warm and comfortable in recovery. You will need a support person to drive you home usually one to two hours after your procedure.

Step 5: Egg Freezing

Once collected, your fertility specialist and theatre team passes your eggs directly to our scientists located right next door. Our highly skilled scientists recover and identify the mature eggs to be frozen. Immature eggs are not viable or ready to create embryos so we only freeze mature eggs.

Your eggs are frozen in the lab using a method called vitrification, or snap freezing. We decrease the water content in the eggs to prevent damage to them when they’re frozen.

Frequently Asked Questions:

  • YOU are the most valuable investment you’re ever going to make.

There are many valid reasons to delay having a family and many factors driving the egg freezing revolution.

    • The average age of marriage is increasing.

    • Women are more focused on career and travel.

    • Women desire more financial independence.

    • Relationship standards are higher.

    • Personal fulfillment is a priority.

    • Most people freezing as a ‘back-up’ plan.

The important thing is education, knowledge about your current fertility and being aware of the options you have to take control of your reproductive future. Egg freezing is a power move that allows you to dance to your own life’s rhythm, not the biological clock. It’s time to write your own destiny.

  • You can get started immediately. Egg freezing is a relatively straightforward process that can begin at any stage of your cycle.

If your 30 and have 12 eggs frozen, you’re almost guaranteed to have at least one child. To have similar chances at the age of 36, you would need to freeze 25 eggs, which could require several egg freezing cycles.

We want time on our side to create healthy embryos that create healthy babies. We want to freeze early to give you a better chance to conceive and reduce costs with less cycles required.

If we focus on freezing before 35, we have younger, healthier eggs suspended in time and solid options down the track.

  • Eggs are snap frozen at minus 196 degrees Celsius, stored in liquid nitrogen and do not deteriorate over time. Advanced vitrification technology translates to at least 90-95% survival rate for good quality eggs. This incredible technology also allows for frozen donor eggs to yield good quality pregnancy rates for recipients.

Australians can store eggs and embryos on average for 10-15 years with no medical reason to discard.

  • There are no associated risks with egg freezing to your overall health. The actual egg extraction procedure carries a very small (less than 5%) risk of short-term complications like bleeding or infection, as with ANY surgical procedure.

Worried about hormones? Don’t be. We’re amplifying hormones that your body produces naturally and levels return to normal after the first period following collection. There’s no increased risk of breast or ovarian cancer doing an egg freezing cycle.

Egg freezing does not lower your age of menopause or increase your risk of infertility on the future.

Let’s rewrite your fertility narrative, together!

Women don’t lose one egg per month but multiple eggs per day. Only one egg will be released through ovulation naturally each month, the rest will be reabsorbed.

actually helps more eggs mature.

Energy

Eggs sitting in ovaries working at low pace get damaged. Harmful factors build up affecting cell organelles like mitochondria, our cells’ energy factory.

Over time, eggs don’t produce enough energy to do their job when called to action. Yep, eggs get tired too.
